Last Saturday I was reminded why I decided to play touch and retire from contact rugby.
For some reason, the itch to have that loving contact from my dear opposition returned and decided to play for my alumni team OPA against ASAS in the veterans cup. Fitness wise, I think I was there, subbing out in the last 10 minutes of the 2nd half. I also made numerous hard tackles but very limited gains with the ball in hand. The opposition were faster in covering defence. Whilst it was great fun, like a secret love affair (didn't tell my wife about the game), these images tells u what dawned on me when I got home and took that warm shower. The struggle to get up in the morning was more difficult than saying no to a free drink.
I hope these images will remind me when I decide to play full 15 contacts. Respect to my fellow team mates Kerbau and Shahnaz for tempting me to taste that sweet forbidden apple of contact rugby. Respect to all the vets who can still handle these bruises week in week out, I don't know how they do it.
Meanwhile, the touch later that evening was a bliss. Perfect weather and great turnout. The most memorable one was a try from Jeera cutting through Igor and another unsuspecting defender to score under their noses. Kids touch was wonderful, the kids had fun with the adults in their mini games and lastly, we wish Assunta a happy birthday and hope you never have to get injured for the next 30 years amen.
See u all this Saturday, touch is as usual.
